Rejection = Redirection

Imagine you’ve just finished that job interview. Feeling super excited, prepped, also a lil nervous.

A few days later the company gets back to you with a rejection letter of the job. You feel gutted, angry, even frustrated. Trying to track what possible mistakes you made during the interview or application process.

This is the natural and first direction all of our minds go towards: “What did I do wrong?”

Maybe one candidate had more experience, unique skills, certifications, or maybe had a higher level of education than you. And that’s okay, you might be a little jealous and envious of them.

Think of it this way: that one job you got rejected from may just be an indication that there’s something better for you. Better in pay. Better in experience. Better location. Better people. Better benefits.

Let’s be real. Rejection isn’t fun. It never is. It’s a bummer, hurts us, makes us sad and angry and incredibly frustrated, especially if it was a position/company which we were really interested in.

It’s up to us on how we want to take it. We can either sit around and sulk about that interview from 3 weeks ago or we can join a course to get a certification and interview further for more positions.

It’s taken me years and countless rejections in my life to understand this. Idea rejections, position rejections, project rejections. And still when I get rejected now, I of course think back and wonder what happened, did I say something incorrect - what exactly went wrong? But you can’t be stuck up on it for a while, right? What’s that going to do? You won’t get the job just by being stuck on that position. We’ve got to move on.

Reflecting is perfectly okay and honestly what we should do after getting a rejection! But being stuck on it for too long is what we need to work on. It’s one of those skills which really gets every single person. It can be really difficult at times because one’s self-confidence can deflate dramatically if they’ve really worked on the interview prep or presentation idea and it got bluntly rejected. It’s really hard. Having been there, it really took a lot out of me to climb back up and out of that hole of self-doubt. There’s no denying that so don’t worry, you’re not alone in feeling like that if you have.

Rejection is equal to redirection.

Rejection is equal to redirection.

Rejection is equal to redirection.

Rejection is equal to redirection.

Rejection is equal to redirection.

There’s something better in stock in the future for you, you just might not see it right now <3.
