Don't Be That Person

Updated: Jan 19, 2021

*** the use of “you” is intended to be towards generalized public. NOT ONE SPECIFIED PERSON ***

To say it bluntly — probably one of the most selfish things one could do: Steal ideas; claim that what you’ve spent your hard work, time, and effort on, as theirs; give speeches out to their friends and family and literally using very VERY similar language and words as you did in your piece… makes me go absolutely bonkers - for a lack of a better word.

You know why? Because you spent hours and hours on something which you truly loved and are so happy with and at the end of the project when it is complete and successful, when someone else claims that they did “a lot of the work” when they didn’t, is SO frustrating. You put in your time and numerous ideas into projects only then for others to be applauded and to be taking all the credit for it?

Fight for your right. Do not let these things go. People will lie and spring up situations just to take credit for things, you NEED to stay alert for these red flags. Just for someone else to prosper do not let them steal things you’ve put together and made successful. I always love and hope everyone goes forward in their life — they prosper, succeed, but NEVER through stealing others’ ideas, work, or disrespecting another individual. It is entirely disgusting, disrespectful, and incredibly selfish and self-centered of you to do so.

Oh and if you’re someone who does steal other people’s ideas just to get attention, look “better,” make your résumé look like you’ve accomplished more, or just want to show off to others by claiming that the work that is done, you did when you didn’t... then hun, you need to rethink what you’re doing.

I don’t mean it in a disrespectful way but think about if you spent your late nights, days which you could have been in the city with your friends, but instead you stayed home or at work to do this project which you enjoyed the process of and learnt so much from, and finally when it is launched, someone else says “oh yeah I did that,” how HURT would you be that people are applauding someone else for work that you did?

I’m going to leave it at that but you need to really rethink your actions and be truthful. It’s part of corporate life unfortunately that similar things happen… you work your butt off on things and don’t really get credit but whenever you are able to, especially if they’re smaller projects, you need to speak up. Do not be afraid. Get what you deserve, don’t settle for less. Of course don’t be disrespectful and rude about it, but have a discussion/talk in a civil manner. 🤍
